DreamSail sailing area

Greece

One country, several distinct sailing personalities. The Ionian is often chosen for gentler island-hopping; the Saronic combines easy access from Athens with varied stops; the Cyclades can deliver stronger seasonal winds and a more energetic sailing experience.

When to go

Season & rhythm

May–June and September can offer a strong balance of warmth and less peak-season pressure; July–August are popular and conditions can be more demanding in exposed areas.

Weather varies year to year. Use current marine forecasts, local notices and operator briefings for real decisions.

Skipper evidence

Qualifications

Bareboat skippers normally need evidence of competence acceptable to the operator and local authorities; requirements should be confirmed for the exact yacht and base before booking.

Route inspiration

A week can take many shapes.

Example inspiration: Lefkas → Meganisi → Kalamos/Kastos → Ithaca → Kefalonia → Lefkas. Final routing must always follow weather, local advice and the skipper’s judgement.

Route ideas are inspiration, not passage plans.

The skipper remains responsible for safe navigation, conditions, local restrictions and the operator's permitted cruising area.

What to watch

Plan for the details.

  • The Meltemi can materially affect exposed Aegean routes in summer
  • Mooring practices and harbour space vary by island
  • Qualification acceptance must be checked against the actual operator
